The Benefits of Veneers

Looking for a little help getting the perfect smile? Cosmetic dentistry continues to go from strength to strength with bonding, implants, tooth reshaping and other options being used. Veneers are one of the most popular treatments, and our patients have seen some wonderful results.

What Are Veneers?

Simply put, veneers work in a similar way to a false fingernails by adding a thin layer of porcelain in front of your tooth. They help to make teeth look naturally healthy and white, and require little preparation.

For How Long Have People Been Using Veneers?

They have been more prevalent since the turn of the millennium, but veneers were first seen in the film industry almost a century ago.

In order to improve the smiles of both actors and actresses, Dr Charles Pincus conceived the idea of applying false fronts to create stunning smiles. These were only temporary additions, but in the past 30 years, dental technology has allowed them to be realistic solutions for everyone.

The Four Main Benefits of Veneers

The appearance of your teeth and smile can make a big difference to things such as confidence, self-esteem and appearance. These can be helped by veneers.

Here are four key benefits:

  • Veneers can brighten or improve the colour of a discoloured tooth.

  • Veneers can fix a chipped tooth to give a natural look and shape.

  • Veneers can close gaps in teeth to improve their appearance.

  • Veneers can bring a single tooth in line with the others.

How Does the Preparation Work?

Before the procedure begins, the dentist may need to remove some of the outer enamel surface to ensure the veneer can be bonded properly. This won’t involve removing any more than the thickness of the veneer. Usually a local anaesthetic is not needed but can be injected to remove any discomfort.

Following preparation, a mould will be taken of your teeth so that the dental technician can keep a record and create the veneer. A shade guide will be used to make sure the colour matches your other teeth.

How Long Does It Take?

The preparation will be done in one visit, and then a separate appointment will be made to fit the veneer. Once it is fitted, there can be no major adjustments, although minor amendments can be made.

Following this, you should enjoy many years (as many as 10–15) with your new veneers. Like your teeth, they can break or chip, but these issues are rare because of their strength and durability, and problems are often simple to repair.

What Will It Cost?

The cost of procedures varies depending on the work needed. With a simple consultation, we can give you an idea of the price.

What Happens Afterwards?

Clients enjoy having no recovery period and even combining it with other treatments such as tooth whitening to give the best results. As a cosmetic procedure, it improves your smile and appearance, and can usually help you to be more confident.
