Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is necessary when the nerve of your tooth has lost vitality. This can due to decay, trauma or can happen in heavily filled teeth.

Expert Treatment

Root canal treatment is essentially an advanced cleaning process of the inside of a tooth. Each tooth has its own unique complex canal system which is negotiated using a variety of rotary Nickel Titanium instruments. The tooth is patiently cleaned with several solutions that reach areas of the system that the files cannot.

It is a very intricate, precise procedure. At The Lodge Dental Surgery we have invested in specialist equipment which allow us to negotiate even the most complex of canal systems.

Most importantly the process is pain free! You can rest assured that you are in great hands at The Lodge Dental Surgery and your dentist will talk you through the process from start to finish.

How Can Root Canal Treatment Help?

Once the nerve tissue has died, root canal treatment is the only way of preserving the tooth. It is the only alternative to having the tooth extracted. Root canal treatment will eliminate the infection from the root canal system and stop it from spreading into the jaw bone.

We carry out a series of treatments on the infected pulp (nerve) in which the necrotic (dead) nerve tissue is removed from the tooth. The canal system is then intensively cleaned, shaped and filled with an inert rubber material. This will remove the infection the immune system will allow the healing process.

Once the treatment is complete we will advise if any additional cosmetic work is needed, for example internal bleaching or a crown.

Root canal treatments are usually pain-free. We administer a local anesthetic to numb up your jaw so it should feel the same as having a regular filling.
